Office Round-Up: Booze-Free Beverages

As we enter the holiday season, people are reaching for a different kind of libation now more than ever: one sans alcohol. Since SipC’s launch in 2019, we’ve seen a rise in alcohol-removed, non-alcoholic, and low-alcohol companies. (And we’re loving it.) According to BevAlc Insights’ August report, “Non-alcoholic wine, beer, and spirits have been among the fastest-growing subcategories year-over-year in their respective categories.” While the sector still accounts for a small portion of sales, it shows people are becoming more aware and mindful of their alcohol consumption.

Seedlip Garden 108

MADI:
Seedlip’s Garden 108 was delicious. I can’t believe how closely it resembles a fully alcoholic spirit. I’m impressed! It is very earthy—but for someone like me who loves a dry gin or dirty martini, it was perfect. I drank it chilled, straight with a twist of lemon. You’d never be able to tell it’s non-alcoholic.

Athletic Brewing – Upside Dawn Golden Ale


HEATHER:
This tasted exactly like a light beer. I kept reading the label and was so surprised it was non-alcoholic. It had the classic hops taste and foam top when you pour it. I was very surprised with how close it resembled an actual beer!

MADI:
Athletic Brewing hit the mark with this one. This is a great alternative for beer lovers. The taste is exactly like regular beer. It was actually a little too “hoppy” for my taste (closer to an IPA than I prefer), but the flavor is spot on to a typical lite beer. The only difference I noticed was the amount of foam it produced, which is much more than typical beer. But other than that, it is exceptionally made.

Ghia – Le Spritz

ALEX:
I love love Ghia’s instagram account. Especially their “feel like ghia” posts, so I was really excited to pop open my le spritz can. I made myself dinner and popped open a can. I didn’t put it over ice, which I think would have made it more “spritz” like, but I immediately recognized the herbal and citrus notes. Ghia is a non-alcoholic apertivo, and it definitely has that botanical apertivo flavor profile. Not sweet, but lots of balanced flavors that compliment each other. Def a new favorite for my spritz o’clock hour! 

HEATHER:
I was happy with the floral and balanced flavor this had. It wasn’t overpowering with the carbonation either. Pouring it over ice helped it open up and make it more of a refreshing daytime drink. 

MADI:
I was pleasantly surprised by this! I loved the flavors. It reminded me of a classic cocktail, with the perfect amount of bitterness. I enjoyed mine in a chilled rocks glass garnished with an orange wedge.

Curious Elixirs No. 4

HEATHER:
This bottled drink was my favorite; it tasted like a specialty kombucha. It was mainly citrus flavors, which are my favorite, and the carbonation helped add a nice blend of the flavors. It was a perfect drink right out of the bottle and good any time of day!

MADI:
I tend to lean toward “not-so-fruity” cocktails, but the Curious Elixir No. 4 was delightful! Very similar to an Aperol Spritz, it’s light and refreshing. I sipped mine in the evening before bed, and really did feel the unwinding effects of the added adaptogens. But I could also see myself drinking this with girlfriends at an afternoon lunch.
